What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming?
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the art and science of personal excellence. It was developed in the early 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder to study patterns that experts use in any field to achieve outstanding results and, has since, grown enormously as a means of enhancing performance and realizing human
potential in every area of personal and business life.
Neuro: all behavior stems from our neurological processes of the five senses.
Linguistic: language orders our thoughts and behavior when communicating with others.
Programming: ways we can choose to recognize our ideas and actions to produce results.
A Model Of Excellence
Central to NLP is the systematic analysis of what makes peak performers achieve excellence consistently. Thus, Bandler and Grinder established the process known as ‘modeling’, which is based on the concept that if one person can accomplish something skillfully, such skill can be learned by others. The structure of exceptional performance is therefore made available to us all, with far-reaching effects.
With NLP it is possible to transformation the belief system of a person immediately, moving them from disempowering limiting beliefs to beliefs that enable them to move with power and ease. Clients who have persistent negative emotions that limits them from taking powerful action can also be assisted. This is because the foundation of any disempowering state is a limiting belief and often a negative emotion.
SUCCESS STORY
I know I am not a new person, but I have changed in a number of ways, so much so, that I believe I am a new person – absolutely.
Coaching from Dr Wesley Morris has had such a tremendous impact on my life; I am more deeply aware of a change in attitude to most things/situations; and I am in better control of my feelings and behaviours.
I am now capable of feeling less fearful of lizards, enclosed spaces and situations, which previously had me locked in fear.
There is a new awareness within me, which allows me to be calm, and to respond in a rational manner, where previously I would have reacted in anger.
I am now able to find alternate answers when things go awry – numerous possibilities now exist, where before I thought things could only go one way. For me this is a big thing.
One of the weakest areas of my life has been my lack of self-confidence… Working with Dr Morris has helped me to conquer my fear in this department… I am working on speaking out, being involved in discussions and not being afraid of giving an opinion.
Organising my life is another area in which growth has taken place. I have become more organised in setting myself tasks, mapping out daily activities and ensuring that I adhere to them.
I have cleaned out the closet, allowing only important stuff to remain, previously the old me could not say ‘no’ – I was trying too hard to please everyone else but myself.
In all honesty I have become a much stronger person …more assertive… more positive and am better ale to make choices, instead of waffling and being indecisive.
